How to Disable Automatic Spell Check in Evernote on a Mac

Some folks want to disable the spelling-check feature on Evernote. This can be useful because if you are typing many things quickly, you might have something like financil meaning "financial," but Evernote replaces the word as "financier," which could make understanding your sentence quite more difficult in the future.

This guide might apply to other programs as well, and is simple enough to quickly try out. We are using Mountain Lion and the newest Evernote, version 5.0.4.

To do this, simply:

  1. Open Evernote
  2. Open a file within your Notebooks (anything you can type on)
  3. Find a typed word, and right-click on it
  4. Go to Spelling and Grammar in the menu that pops up
  5. In the sub-menu, uncheck "Correct Spelling Automatically"
  6. Repeat step 3 again, and go to Substitutions, uncheck "Text Replacement" if necessary
